31 candidates, impersonators, middlemen convicted: Official

New Delhi: A special CBI court in Madhya Pradesh has convicted 31 people in the Vyapam Related case where candidates had used middlemen to procure impersonators in the 2013 Police Constable Recruitment Test of Madhya Pradesh. The court has held these accused guilty under Sections 120B, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC and Section 3(d)(1)(2)/4 of the Madhya Pradesh Recognized Examinations Act.

The CBI had filed a chargesheet against the 31 accused in April 2017, alleging that 12 candidates who had appeared for the PCRT in 2013, had engaged middlemen, who had in turn arranged for 12 impersonators to appear for the examination.

The central agency had successfully identified the 12 impersonators during the course of its investigation and accordingly traced them. Officials here said that all accused who were out on bail have been remanded to judicial custody and that these persons will be sentenced by the court on November 25.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had taken up the investigation in the Vyapam cases in December 2015 after the Supreme Court of India had handed over the probes to them in July and September of the same year. The agency has filed chargesheet against hundreds of accused in various examination scams across the state.
