10-year RI to SBI's ex-staff in misappropriation case

New Delhi: A special CBI court in Ranchi has sentenced 10 years imprisonment to former Deputy Manager of State Bank of India in a case related to misappropriation of crores.
"A special judge for CBI cases, Ranchi sentenced Prasant Kumar Ghosh, the then deputy manager (accounts) of State Bank of India, Main Road branch of Ranchi to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment under section 409 of IPC with fine of Rs 50 lakh in case related to misappropriation of crores," CBI said in a statement here on Wednesday. The probe agency said that Ghosh was also sentenced to undergo three years under section 13 (2) r/w 13(1) (c) of the PC Act, 1988 with fine of Rs 50 lakh.
All the sentences of imprisonment shall run concurrently and out of the said fine amount, 50 per cent shall be paid to the SBI Branch.
In another development, the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Bhopal has sentenced AS Hegde, then branch manager and Ravindra Kumar, the then assistant manager, both working in State Bank of Mysore, Bhopal to three years rigorous imprisonment in a fraud case. Both the officials of the bank had sanctioned and disbursed 21 housing loans in the name of various borrowers from 2006 to 2009 resulting into siphoning of Rs 200.40 lakh from the bank.
