Industry body Nasscom and Data Security Council of India (DSCI) said on Tuesday they have partnered with Noida Police to educate people on ways to save themselves from falling prey to cyber crimes.
The two-day programme, scheduled from 20 February will be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh police ADG, NCR, O P Singh.
Nasscom and DSCI will drive awareness across IT companies, while Uttar Pradesh police will run the mass awareness campaign amongst citizens in the NCR region, a statement said.
As per NCRB statistics, there were 1,791 cases registered under IT Act during 2011 as compared to 966 cases during 2010, an increase of 85.4 per cent.
‘The cyber space has its pros and cons. While most individuals and companies are well aware of how to use the Internet, not everyone knows the damage that cyber-crimes can cause to their personal and business lives,’ Nasscom President Som Mittal said.
This collaboration will ensure that the common man and law enforcement agencies, in addition to IT organisations, are well aware of the basic requirements of staying safe in the cyber world, he added.
‘The Noida IT-BPO community is also extending support to the Police, by using online and offline platforms to promote the campaign,’ he said.
The programme will include a two-day workshop on law enforcement, where officers will be apprised of the basics of cybercrimes and cyber forensics tools demonstration.
The police officers will visit the campuses of IT/BPO for a sub-programme ‘Know Your BPO’ and interact with key stakeholders to learn the challenges that they face with respect to crime in the city.
DELHI POLICE LAUNCHES CYBER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime cell launched an awareness and safety campaign on Tuesday aimed at curbing rampant increase in cyber crimes, especially among minors. Asking children to refrain from entering adult and hate sites, informing them of the cyber laws of the country, advertising publicity campaigns, creating awareness amongst school administration and teachers are some of the highlights of this programme. According to the Delhi Police, which targets children in the age group of 14-18 years through this campaign, 245 cases of fake profile and 51 of defamation were filed last year with majority of the victims being minors.
The Delhi Police also mulls appointing Internet Safety officers in each school by training designated teachers. S D Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Economic Offences Wing, said parents will also be communicated to and trained as a part of this campaign so that they can guide their children and prevent them from being cyber crime victims.
