BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi dubbed Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit the most ‘relieved’ chief minister of the country and a ‘ribbon cutter’ but could not present her alternative in Delhi.
Modi’s silence on the most crucial issue on who would be the face of the party against Sheila Dikshit indicates, according to political analysts, that all is not well with the city BJP.
‘Sheila Dikshit is the most relieved chief minister of the country as she doesn’t have to care about crucial departments such as agriculture, animal husbandry and irrigation. She is busy in cutting ribbons. On any crucial issue, she passes the buck either to the centre or to the local civic bodies,’ said Modi addressing the mammoth rally at Japanese Park in the city. He went on to say that the city expects more from her as chief minister on 16 December gang rape case than just a motherly advice to girls to return home before night.
‘The Congress government not only looted the government’s treasure but the “respect” of the country. Any country uses mega sports events for its branding before the world but this government sent the country in backward direction by over 20 years,’ alleged Modi insinuating at the allegations of corruptions during 2010 Commonwealth Games.
He further added that South Korea and China used the Olympics to brand themselves and secured a place among developed countries.
In his earlier rallies in poll-bound states such as Chhattishgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Modi praised the regional leaders of the party and asked the people to support them but during Sunday’s rally the city leaders were mentioned only in the beginning of Modi’s speech.
‘Here in Delhi, we have several Vijay (victory) — Vijay Goel, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Vijender Gupta and Vijay Sharma,’ said Modi which was his only comment on city leaders besides thanks at the end for organising such a mammoth and historic rally at the end but without naming any leader. According to sources, BJP is looking at Modi to revamp its lack lustre election campaign in Delhi.
Speaking at the event, city BJP president Vijay Goel expressed his desire to work with Modi. ‘I had earlier worked with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now I want to work with Modi,’ said Goel.
He however, assured the gathering as ‘president of the party’ to fulfil all his promises if the BJP was voted to power. ‘We will do in 15 months what the government could not do in 15 years,’ added Goel.
