Narendra Modi advocates holistic approach for healthy society

‘Without proper mobilisation of resources and lack of clear road map, desired results for creating a healthy society cannot be achieved,’ Modi said in his inaugural address at a day-long conference on ‘Healthy Gujarat: Agenda for Action’ at Mahatma Mandir here.

An attempt should be made by government, private organisations and civil society to work in an united manner for building a healthy society, he said.

‘A comprehensive approach must be adopted by government officials for obtaining quantum jump and desired results in the health sector,’ he said.

The country would be celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary in five years time (in 2019) and it would be a great tribute to the Father of the Nation if we adopt one of his ideals (cleanliness), Modi said.

‘We must take Gandhi’s message of cleanliness (personal to social hygiene) from city to district to taluka to village levels,’ the chief minister said, adding that there is no greater inspiration than Mahatma Gandhi.

Batting for technological upgradation, he said, ‘There should be an e-library for doctors and medical professionals so that advancements in this field can be accessed by the coming generations.’

A place, which is prone to one type of disease, should be geographically mapped and steps should be taken to ensure that the outbreak of disease does not recur, he suggested.

Organised by the state government’s health and family welfare department, the conference was also attended by state health minister Nitin Patel and minister of state for health Parbat Patel. Delegates associated with the medical profession from across the country were also present.
