Former BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday indicated it will be Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi who would be leading the party for the 2014 general elections. Though Naidu did not name Modi, his cryptic answers were enough to indicate who the former BJP president was referring to. ‘The nation and you all know who our leader is,’ said Naidu, when asked who would be the prime ministerial candidate of the party.
The BJP leader dropped enough hints in his answers to suggest the party has made up its mind on Modi. Naidu said that the person to lead the country should be decisive, dynamic and development oriented. ‘The leader should have a track record of good governance,’ said Naidu. He, however, stated the final decision on this issue will be decided by the parliamentary board of the party. The indications for Modi’s candidature came on a day when veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani and Naidu himself met RSS sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat here in Delhi.
‘We meet the Sarsanghachalak to discuss issues of national and mutual interest. We don’t have the practice of talking (to the media) about the discussions we had with the RSS,’ said Naidu, refusing to elaborate on the meeting with Bhagwat.
Earlier in the day, the meeting between Advani and Bhagwat lasted for about 75 minutes. It is learnt the RSS chief was firm on the decision that there will be no second thoughts on Modi being projected as the prime ministerial candidate.
