“What’s consistent about the Congress party’s policy on Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir is inconsistency,” said Naidu on Thursday. “Why is Congress trying to exonerate Pakistan? I appeal them to be sensitive, realistic, and act and speak accordingly. The Congress has again displayed insensitivity on the J&K issue, its statements smell of political opportunism,” he added.
The minister’s comments come a day after Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Wednesday that, “J&K was “sliding into total chaos.” The statements of the Prime Minister, home minister and defence minister have intensified the crisis. Moderation in words and actions alone can retrieve the situation.”
Chidambaram also referred to PM Modi’s new, aggressive stance vis-a-vis Pakistan. “Modi has decided to respond to Pakistan’s provocative comments on Kashmir by talking of atrocities in Balochistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Congress leader also urged the ruling PDP to join hands with the opposition to find a way to end the violence in Kashmir since security forces killed Kashmiri separatist Burhan Wani on July 8.
However, the official Congress stated that Pakistan’s atrocities must be highlighted and that this strategic shift on Modi’s part is a good one.
