Mystery shrouds AIIMS doctor’s death

A junior resident doctor, suspected to be a drug addict, working with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room on Thursday morning. The exact cause of his death is yet to be ascertained but the police have not ruled out the possibility of suicide and overdose of drugs.
The incident was reported to the police on Thursday by the hospital authorities that a decomposed body has been found inside a hostel room. When the team reached the spot, the deceased, identified as Kumar Kunal (34) was lying on the bed. His body has been kept in the mortuary.
The doctor was pursuing his post-graduation in AIIMS’ medicine department and was staying in the junior residents’ hostel at Masjid Moth area near the hospital.
The matter came to light when Kunal’s colleagues inquired the hostel warden about his whereabouts as he had not been seen for the past three days. The hostel warden informed them that Kunal did not came out of his room from the past few days.
Kunal’s colleagues, along with the hostel warden, went to his room and found that the door was locked from inside.
Further, the hospital security was informed about the incident and they broke open the door. His semi-decomposed body was found lying on the bed.
“The body was found on the bed and the room was bolted from inside. There were no injury marks on his body. So far, investigations have revealed that he was not eating since the past three days and was also not seen during the same period,” the official said.
“The cause of death is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, a case under Section 174 of CrPC has been registered and the probe is underway. His family members, friends, colleagues are being questioned to know the cause of his death. The call details of his mobile phone are being scanned,” the official said.
Police suspect that the deceased was a drug addict. “He was a known addict and injections have been found on the spot. There is a possibility that he might have died due to overdose of drugs,” he said.
The family of Kunal, a resident of Vaishali district in Bihar, has been informed of his death. The body has been preserved till the family’s arrival.
