Approximately 150 Delhi University aspirants and 100 teachers from various schools of the city gathered in the seminar hall of Tagore International School for the third day of Delhi University’s Open House session for the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) admission on Thursday.
There was lukewarm response from the students on the third day of the open house which was organised by the Delhi University to clear the students’ doubts about the four-year structure which is to be implemented from the 2013 academic session.
Questions related to entrance examinations, admission forms , interviews and CATE were raised by anxious students during the session, but DU officials succeeded in resolving most of their doubts.
JM Khurana, dean of Student Welfare encouraged and assured them of a smooth admission process.
He informed the students that there won’t be a Common Aptitude Test for English or CATE from this year and all admissions for BA English (Honours) will be based on cut-offs to be issued by colleges, as per the University schedule’.
He further explained that the quality of education has improved as compared to the past and this quality will definitely improve the employment opportunities.
Madhulika Sen, principal of Tagore International School, asked Khurana about the importance of Mathematics for students.
Akansa Yadav, a DU aspirant, found the session interesting.
‘My main questions were regarding the admission procedure and what course would be appropriate for me. I am looking for admission in St’ Stephens College and interested in civil services,’ she said, adding that the removal of CATE came as a huge relief to many students and she was satisfied with the responses she got at the session.
Khurana also expressed his concerns about the Indian education system and compared it to the Western counterparts and said that the Indian education system will take time to reach such heights of excellence.
Khurana also informed the gathering that the B.Tech/B.Sc in Innovation with Mathematics and IIT, B.Tech (Humanities) are courses available to only those students who have already taken admission in any course of Delhi University.
