Former military dictator Pervez Musharraf returned to Pakistan on Sunday ahead of the general elections. However, analysts believe it is not going to make much of a difference. The Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government recently became the first civilian government in the nation’s history to complete a five-year term in office. Polls are scheduled for May this year. Musharraf said he returned home to ‘save’ Pakistan and would face all ‘challenges’ that lay ahead. Professor Mathew Joseph C of Jamia Millia Islamia, who is associated with Pakistan Studies Programme, said, ‘There surely will be a dramatic turn and he is trying to be at the centre-stage, but politically I don’t think it is going to make much difference.’ Lahore-based economist Syed Saval was of the same opinion and said that it will make ‘zero’ difference to Pakistan politics.
