Murder of businessman: Four arrested, cash recovered

Delhi Police arrested four persons in connection to the murder and robbery of a businessman in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area, police said on Wednesday. The deceased, identified as Rakesh Prasad, ran a business of money transfers. Police have recovered Rs 2.68 lakh, a country-made pistol, two live cartridges and four used cartridges, said a senior cop.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Faim Ahmed, Sagar, Mohammed Imran and Nawabuddin Malik. Investigators said that the accused had planned to rob the deceased because he was in to the business of money transfer and always carried big amounts with him.

An Investigating Officer said: “On July 2 at around 10:30 pm, Rakesh Prasad was returning home to Farsh Bazaar on his motorcycle. Since Nawabuddin and Faim used to stay close to Prasad’s shop in Krishna Nagar area, they knew that he had earned a lot of money. They hatched a plan to rob him.

Along with the other two accused, they intercepted his motorcycle and pointed a gun at him. When Prasad resisted, they fired two bullets and fled with the bag full of cash containing around Rs 5 lakh.”
Police said that they received a PCR call that a man was seen lying in a pool of blood. They rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

“During the course of investigation, police teams were deployed. CCTV footages were scanned and based on dump calls made during the time of the incident in the area, police zeroed in on a few suspects. Through further technical surveillance on them, the cops received a secret information that the accused involved in the murder would come near a restaurant in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area. Accordingly, a trap was laid and Faim and Sagar were apprehended.

During interrogation, the two revealed names of other accused. A case under relevant sections was registered against the accused at the Krishna Nagar.
