All seven members of a family in Ghaziabad were murdered by cutting their throats with a sharp weapon on Tuesday night. The victims include three generations of the family, a senior citizen and his wife, their son and daughter-in- law, and three minor grandchildren.
'Initial investigation has revealed no signs of forced entry to the house. As all members of the family are dead, we are unable to ascertain whether any valuables were stolen from the house,' said Nitin Tiwari, senior superintendent of police. The police is screening the CCTV footage of their shop to find clues to who could have killed the family. Investigators are also focusing on a driver, who had been removed from the family’s employment approximately a week back.
'Prima facie it appears that the killers were known to the family,' he added. The deceased have been identified as Satish Chandra Goel (65), a businessman, his wife Manju (62), son Sachin (40), daughter in-law Rekha (38) and three grandchildren, Megha (13), Neha (10) and Aman (7).
Satish owned a shop and also dealt in property. The incident took place in the Nai Basti area of Kotwali police station in Ghaziabad after 10 pm. A neighbour informed the police that at around 10 pm he called the family members to find out about a noise that he had heard at their house.
Goel, however, told the neighbour that it was a family matter. In the morning at around 9 am, their family doctor visited the house and informed the police about the incident. The house was locked from outside. 'All members were murdered in the same way, by cutting their throats with a sharp edged weapon which shows they were attacked with an intention to kill. Hardly any other injury was noticed on their bodies, but we are waiting for the report of the post mortem examination for detailed information,' added Tiwari.
The police has also recovered a knife from the scene of crime which has some fingerprints on it.
The forensic team has also been summoned for investigation and it has found shoe prints of two persons at the crime scene. The police has not ruled out robbery as the motive behind the gruesome murder, as several household items were found scattered on the floor and the cupboards in the house were open. The police has not found any enmity and suspects that they were killed to eliminate some kind of evidence. Evidences of the murder have also been destroyed. The Special Task Force has also been involved in the investigation and senior officers have visited the spot. Meanwhile, station house officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station, Lallu Singh Maurya has been suspended on account of negligence.
