Five days after the bullet-riddled body of Geetanjali Garg, wife of Gurgaon’s chief judicial magistrate was found, police on Monday recovered two of the three bullets which pierced through her body. Geetanjali’s father-in-law was also questioned by the SIT on Monday.
Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal told reporters that ‘two bullets which had hit Geetanjali were recovered from the scene of crime’.
He also said that the special investigation team (SIT), formed to probe the case, questioned K K Garg, the father of CJM Ravneet Garg.
Meanwhile, in their supplementary complaint, members of Geetanjali’s family have alleged that her in-laws used to ‘torture her for dowry’, and on one occasion they even refused to pay the school fees of her two children and had asked her to get the money from her parents.
A case of murder was registered against the CJM on Saturday.
On 17 July, Geetanjali had been found dead with three bullet injuries near the CJM’s official residence in the high-security Police Lines area here.
On Sunday, her brother Pardeep Aggarwal filed another complaint with the police, alleging that Garg's family consistently ill-treated his sister.
They used to demand expensive gifts and cash from them, alleged Aggarwal in his supplementary complaint submitted to Gurgaon police.
‘A Skoda Laura worth Rs 17 lakh had been given on the occasion of her wedding...After two years of marriage, on being pressurised by them, we were made to give them a Skoda Superb worth Rs 20 lakh,’ said Aggarwal.
‘For the past three months, under pressure from her in-laws, Geetanjali would demand money from us, even for paying the school fees of her two children,’ he said. He also voiced suspicion against Garg's cousin Heena Garg, who used to stay in Gitanjali's home.
‘On the day of her death, she was there in the house along with another cousin from Muktsar,’ he said.
‘The conduct of these two cousins has been very suspicious and they could have been instrumental in her death,’ alleged Aggarwal. He said that Gitanjali's two children can also throw light on the death of his sister, ‘and that was why they are not being allowed to meet the children’.
SIT head ACP Ashok Bakshi grilled the CJM and his family members on Saturday and Sunday. Bakshi said that they are moving in right direction and would soon get some breakthrough in the case.
