Murder case registered against Musharraf over Lal Masjid Op

A murder case was registered against Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf on Monday over the alleged killing of cleric Ghazi Abdur Rasheed and his mother during the 2007 showdown between the state and militants who were holed up inside Islamabad's Lal Masjid (Red Mosque).
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ordered police in July to register an FIR against Musharraf in connection with the killing of Ghazi Abdur Rasheed, former cleric of Lal Masjid, and his mother Sahiba Khatoon.

The station house officer (SHO) of Aabpara police station had refused to register the case despite repeated attempts, saying that he would do so after consulting legal branch of police department. An application for contempt of court against the police officer was later submitted to the court because of his refusal to register the case.

During the hearing of a petition filed by Haroon Rasheed, son of Lal Masjid's slain cleric, against Musharraf for his involvement in the killing of his
father and grandmother, Justice Noorul Huque Qureshi said non-registration of case despite court order was contempt of court.
