Murder accused shoots at cop in bid to escape

Arvind Sharma, who is involved in seven cases of murder and attempt to murder, opened fire at a crime branch team when they came to arrest him. The head constable, Shyam Lal, received bullet injuries.
Police had received information on Wednesday that Sharma, a declared Proclaimed Offender in a murder case, would come to the Nangli Jalib village in a Black Santro to extort money from a bookie. Acting on this information, a raid team was constituted and a trap was laid.
'At around 9’15 pm a black Santro Car bearing No. DL-4C-R-7712 came from the Gurudwara Road side and parked near the Mission School wall. The raid team immediately surrounded the car,' said a police official.
Head Constable Shyam Lal informed the occupant of the car that he has been surrounded by the Crime Branch staff and that he should submit to a check by the police team.
But Sharma whipped out a pistol and fired at HC Shyam Lal. The bullet pierced through the left palm of the Head Constable,' said a police official.
