Munirka wants to evict us, say north easterners

‘The khap panchayat in Munirka, south Delhi, at a meeting on Sunday took a decision to force people from the northeast to leave the area. So, the concerned citizens from the northeast based in Delhi met officials at the Vasant Vihar police station,’ Manipuri activist Binalakshmi Nepram said in a tweet. The police have assured the community that they would contact the concerned people of the panchayat. ‘Police have assured us that legal action will be taken against any landlord in Munirka who forcibly evicts anyone from the northeast,’ Nepram added.

Meanwhile, a local panchayat leader, on condition of anonymity said, ‘It is a rumour that khap panchayat issued the notice against them. There is no khap panchayat here. We conduct monthly meetings of villagers and local RWAs in which we discuss the local problems. We don’t have any problem from them or any other community.’

Police, however, said that no case or complaint have been lodged as yet. ‘We have not received any formal complaint into this matter as yet,’ said a police official posted at Vasant Vihar police station. He, however, said that both parties approached the police station with their respective sides of the story.
