The fourth accused Kasim Bangali was nabbed from Mumbai late on Saturday night. Ansari, the fifth and last accused, was arrested by the Mumbai crime branch from the national capital and was being taken to the metropolis, a senior police official said. The 27-year-old Ansari was arrested from Bharat Nagar in North-West Delhi when he was on his way to a relative’s house in the capital.
‘A team of Mumbai Crime Branch on Sunday reached Bharat Nagar police station and enquired about a locality about which they had inputs that Ansari will be visiting. He was nabbed when he was on his way to a relative’s house here,’ said a senior Delhi police official. He was then taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial hospital in Delhi for medical examination.
Police had in the early hours of Saturday arrested two of the accused - Vijay Jadhav and Siraj Rehman - while another accused Chand Babu Sattar Shaikh alias Mohammed Abdul had been arrested on Friday.
Vijay Jadhav and Chand Babu Sattar Shaikh were produced before the court on Saturday and remanded in police custody till 30 August. The 23-year-old victim, an intern with an English magazine, was allegedly raped by the five accused at the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Parel area of central Mumbai on Thursday evening when she had gone there with a male colleague on an assignment. The accused tied the hands of the victim’s colleague with belts and took her to a thicket where they took turns to rape her.
The incident, which was a chilling reminder of the 16 December Delhi gang rape case of last year, has sparked nationwide outrage.
