‘The past two years reveal that young patients are the most affected segment among multiple sclerosis patients’ said doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
Approximately 70-80 per cent of patients suffering from the disease at AIIMS are youth in the age group of 18-35 years, who had relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis(MS), the most common of the four types of MS.
Rohit Bhatia, additional professor of Neurology, AIIMS, said that ‘The onset of MS is typically around young adulthood although it is also observed in the pediatric section’.
The department is seeing more referrals with suspected MS than previous years and is engaged in thorough evaluation, timely diagnosis and comprehensive strategy’.
