‘Mulayam should support Sangma’

Amidst the controversy over Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi’s statement against Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy cautioned Samajwadi Party chief against Congress conspiracy and appealed him to snap ties with UPA and support PA Sangama in the presidential election.

‘It is for Mulayam Singh Yadav’s dignity I am appealing him to come out of the shadow of UPA because Congress will use him and discard him after the Presidential elections,’ Swamy told reporters here on Thursday.

Swamy said Congress leader Rashid Alvi calling Mulayam Singh a BJP agent proves how the Congress was bent upon insulting the Samajwadi Party chief. Swamy added that probably the attack against Mulayam was instigated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The Janata Party president said: ‘It is high time that Mulayam should support PA Sangama for the presidential election. I would be supporting him.’

'SANGMA CANDIDATE OF COMMUNAL FORCES'

Soon after the Bharatiya Janata Party decided to support PA Sangma for the presidency, the Nationalist Congress Party [NCP] Thursday described the former Speaker as a candidate of communal forces.

‘It is unfortunate that Sangma has become a candidate of the communal forces... the UPA nominee would have a decisive triumph in the presidential poll,’ NCP general secretary DP Tripathi said.

Observing that the BJP backed Sangma ‘so there is a contest just for the sake of contest’, Tripathi said the decision showed the ‘bankruptcy of the saffron party, which had to import its presidential candidate from the UPA’.

The BJP has announced support to Sangma, who already has the backing of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithha and Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik.
