The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gaining popularity among the Muslim community of the national capital. Mufti Mukarram Ahmad, imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, told Millennium Post that the Muslims think that Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is the only hope for the minority community. He said that the community believes that AAP will not get involved in communal politics. The emergence of the AAP has given a ray of hope to the Muslim youth that there is political party which will work for all the sections of the society.
‘I do not want to name any politician or any political party but I am disappointed with the condition of minority-related politics in the country. Many Muslim youths are now looking forward to join AAP,’ he said. In a veiled reference to former Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui, Mufti advised the newly-launched party to ignore the people who want to use AAP to gain political mileage. ‘There are people in all the political parties whose political career is going down or they have been sidelined by their respective parties, they are now eager to join AAP. The party should overlook such people and give a chance to honest and people clean image people from all section of the society,’ said Mufti.
Farooqui met Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence on Sunday sparking off speculation that he was also keen on being part of the activist-turned politician’s movement.
