MTDC set to make Bollywood a starry tourist destination

A Bollywood Blitzkreig has begun with the film fraternity finally becoming a tourist destination through the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) tie-up with various agencies including the Dadasaheb Phalke Chitra Nagri (Film City, Goregaon)for packaged tours to Film City in Mumbai.  From 20 January, 2014, the MTDC’s ‘Bollywood Tourism’  joint venture is offering tourists a stroll down ‘Star’s Lanes’ in three tour packages priced at Rs 499, Rs 1,999 and Rs 3,250.

‘Bollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world with people coming from even remote areas of India and camping outside filmstars’ homes just to get a glimpse of their favourite film heroes/heroines,’ said Dr Jagdish Patil, Managing Director, MTDC, adding that the three tours —averaging between three to seven hours per trip — will take tourists to filmstars’ residences, film and television show sets to witness live shooting taking place.

‘Bollywood is a brand ambassador in itself and one medium-end package will feature a Bollywood-on-wheels experience called ‘Beverly Hills of Bandra’ where tourists will be taken to film studios having setups like Bollywood Gully Walkthrough, Bollywood Museum, Bollywood Café, Bollywood Costume Gallery and Bollywood VFX Visual Effects experience,’ he said while noting that these three packages are on a non-profit (for MTDC)  but revenue-sharing basis with Film City Corporation.
