MSME minister Muniyappa inaugurates coir sub centre

Muniyappa said that more than 7 lakhs workers are dependent on the industry for their livelihood and around 80% of the workforce is women and his dream is to ensure that the entire husk generated from coconuts should be utilized for coir products and no husk/coir should go waste.
Coir industry has seen many innovations in the recent times.
Speaking on the occasion, MSME minister said: ‘The Board’s Central Coir Research Institute has developed a versatile spinning machine which is capable of revolutionising the coir sector, especially in the states like Karnataka. The board is also popularising the use of a mobile defibering machine which can be taken to interior parts of the villages. It can defiber at least 5,000 coconut husks per day.’
Coir Board will be able to train the women workers in spinning coir yarn and manufacture of value added products out of coir.
