MP opposes extension to official facing sexual harassment charges

The move by the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprise to ‘gift’ an extension of six months to its ad-hoc chairman and managing director, MK Singh, facing sexual assault charges, has raised eyebrows of several parliamentarians. One among them is Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya.

The Lok Sabha MP from Rajkot in Gujarat has asked the chairman of Public Enterprise Selection Board to justify the consideration of extension to Singh as CMD of one of its companies – Bridge & Roof Co (India) Ltd.

Bavaliya, the convener of Gujarat MPs, in a letter to the chairman of selection board, has raised questions over the selection of Singh despite the matter being subjudice at Delhi high court.

‘MK Singh is found guilty in the inquiry carried out by the Internal Complaints Committee for prevention of sexual harassment case at workplace. Singh is facing charges under section 354 -A(iv)/508/509 of the IPC read with section 3(2) of sexual harassment of women at work- place at the 18th court of chief metropolitan magistrate, Calcutta for which learned court has also directed to issue summon,’ he wrote in the letter. Singh’s complaint has also been registered at the national women commission and national minority commission, Bavaliya mentioned in the letter.
