MP examination scam accused arrested from CP

Having a bounty of Rs 15,000, Santosh Chaurasia, involved in examination scam for entrance to the medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh conducted was arrested Wednesday from Connaught Place in New Delhi. Chaurasia, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, is a final year MBBS student of Vardhman Maharive Medical College (VMMC) in Safdarjung Hospital in south Delhi.
He told police that he came in contact with Dr Deepak Yadav, the kingpin of the examination scam already arrested by Madhya Pradesh Police, in 2003 and since then he has been associated with him.
‘The scamsters used to provide fake candidates to take part in the entrance exams instead of the actual candidates,’ Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ravindra Yadav said. Chaurasia was tasked to provide fake candidates. He procured fake candidates from an associate based in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.
‘Dr Deepak Yadav used to charge five to eight lakh rupees per candidate and Chaurasia was given a part of the money. Chaurasia is wanted in four cases of cheating, forgery and examination act of in Gwalior, said a police official.
He was earlier arrested in 2006 in an MBA admission racket along with other associates in Indore. ‘Chaurasia was on Thursday produced in Patiala House Court from where he was handed over to Madhya Pradesh Police on Transit Remand,’ said the official.
