Kaabil-e-tareef

Directed by Sanjay Gupta, this story is all about a blind character’s vengeance, where Rohan (Hrithik) tries to do what the law was not able to do, to avenge the injustice done to his wife (Yami).

One of the best performances of his career, Hrithik Roshan plays the role of a proficient dubbing artist and Yami Gautam as Supriya, a talented pianist, who despite their disability of being blind, have a positive outlook towards life. In just two scenes, you feel the love between the characters. Yami, as the blind yet admirably independent woman, deserves every kind of appreciation from the spectators for her wonderful performance in the film.

Kaabil, at first look seems a routine Bollywood commercial, but it’s not. The movie is gripping, gut-wrenching and has the capacity to remain in your mind for a long time. The back drop is that the script is predictable as we have already seen such avatars in much accomplished films and forms.

The screenplay, written by Vijay Kumar Mishra, puts great effort to keep the audience glued to their seats. The first half of the movie is all about the two love birds and their lovey-dovey mix which, unlike most romantic movies, is fast-moving and entertaining. In the second half of the revenge drama – the fights, the aggression and the hatred gets all mixed-up. But, still, the movie leaves the audience fascinated by the action and the emotions of the characters.

Both the antagonists, Madhavrao Shellar and Amit Shellar, played by real life brothers, Ronit and Rohit Roy respectively gave an intriguing and powerful act as villains. When two baddies, Amit Shellar and his scum-buddy Wasim (Sahidur Rahman) rape Supriya, Rohan’s world is plunged into even more darkness than ever. The cops are not willing to touch the case as Amit happens to be the brother of the local corporator, Madhavrao Shellar. That’s when Rohan plots a strategy to put his disability at back and make utmost use of his abilities to bring justice to the love of his life even after she dies.

This thriller keeps you going with the track till the movie gets over, as the scriptwriter seems to have done an amazing job in conveying the story. But then there are turns when it feels that the scriptwriter took too much of liberty, as Rohan’s way to revenge seemed too easy or manipulated to suit the grace of the movie. The simple emotive story forces the audiences to pray for the lead characters and their victory. On the whole, Kaabil is a pleasurable fare with some great performances. An absolute must watch for all die-hard Hrithik fans.
