Mother, twin sons found dead in posh South Kolkata apartment

In a case of macabre crime, three members of a family were brutally killed inside their residence at the heart of South Calcutta early on Saturday morning. A mother and her two twin sons were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside their house at Palm Avenue. The woman’s husband, who had suffered injuries on all over his body, was rushed to a hospital. Police recovered a dumbbell from the house that could have been used in the crime.

Senior police officers went to the spot and found the three bodies lying in a pool of blood, while the husband Neel Fonseka, with serious injuries on his throat was admitted to the hospital.

Fonseka had told the police while being taken to the hospital that his wife Jessica Fonseka (42) had killed their twin sons Darren (16) and Zossuah (16) by slitting their throats with a sharp weapon. She committed the crime when the two were sleeping in their room. 

Later, she attacked Fonseka with a weapon in which he suffered serious injuries on various parts of his body. When he resisted, a scuffle broke out between the couple which led to the death of Jessica, claimed Fonseka. The two brothers were students of Class IX from two well known English medium schools in the city. Police suspect that they were hit with a heavy object.

Police are investigating all possible angles behind the killing of the woman and her two children. Police are not, however, ruling out the possibility of Fonseka being involved in the killing of his wife. Police have found some irregularities in the statements made by Fonseka in his brief interrogation while being taken to the hospital. 

It has been learnt that he told the doctors that he was attracted to another woman and was involved in an extra marital affair. Police suspect that Jessica’s relationship with her husband was strained ever since she came to know about this relationship. Police have started probe to ascertain whether this quarrel had led to the incident or if there were some other reasons behind it.

According to preliminary investigation, police came to know that Fonseka had developed an extra marital relationship with another woman who was closely associated with their family. 

The police also suspect that this could have led to the horrific killing of the two teenagers and their mother. At the time of the incident, Fonseka’s elder daughter Samantha was in an adjacent room along with one Sabana Ansari whom the Fonseka family used to introduce as Jessica’s younger sister. Police are yet to ascertain the relationship between Fonseka and Sabana.

The cops came to know that the family attended a late party at a city’s night club and returned home late Friday night. Other than Samantha, all the Fonseka family members including Sabana took part at a party in a night club. Police are interrogating Sabana and Samantha as well.
