In a move that would only be a boon to railway commuters, Indian Railways is planning to introduce more AC double decker coaches this Republic Day. Indian Railways will be celebrating the 64th Republic Day by presenting a tableau of Air Conditioned Double Decker during the Republic Day Parade at Rajpath.
‘More coach per coach’ is the theme being presented by the Indian Railways as its tableau for the Republic Day Parade 2013. The tableau also presents the comforts that await a passenger at the railway stations – such as current booking counters, wheel chairs, waiting benches and porters.
Being the prime transport of the nation, Indian Railways carry 23 million passengers and two million tonnes of freight every day.
Neeraj Sharma, CPRO Northern Railways said, ‘The technological superiority of the AC double decker coach lends assurance to the will of the Indian Railways to serve its passengers in the best manner possible. This has a capacity of 120 passengers per coach.’
According to him, primitively designed, developed and manufactured Air conditioned double decker train was introduced for the first time between Howrah and Dhanbad. ‘Now, an enhanced passenger friendly design of such train has been developed which links Jaipur and Delhi and Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Such services are also planned between Habibganj-Indore and Chennai-Bangalore in near future.’
The two-part tableau of Indian Railways consists of a replica of an electric engine, the WAP 7, a high horse power electric passenger locomotive and a replica of the higher capacity air conditioned double decker coach.
According to a regular railway passenger, Ravish, ‘We are happy to see that Indian Railways are making constant efforts to provide their passengers with comfort. The executive lounge in the New Delhi station is one such fine example indeed.’
RAILWAY EMPLOYEES TO BE AWARDED BY PREZ
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnels are selected to be awarded with President Police Medals and Indian Police Medals by the president on Republic Day for their excellent service in the security of Indian Railways. Anil Saxena, spokesperson of Indian Railways, said, ‘16 RPF personnels have been awarded with Police Medal for their distinguished and meritorious service in the railway security. The President Police Medal for distinguished services has been awarded to Deepak Chaturvedi, Assistant Security Commissioner, RPF of North Western Railway, Jaipur. 15 other officers and staff of the RPF have been honoured for their meritorious service in Railways.
