Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday said the DTC and cluster routes buses are plying as per unified time table, keeping in view the convenience and need of the commuters. The passengers in Delhi are bound to have more relief as orange-colour route cluster no 2 with 16 buses has become operational from Friday.
The CM was addressing after flagging off the buses from Delhi Secretariat, in the presence of Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami and other senior officers of the department.
Dikshit said the Transport department and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System [DIMTS] Ltd have given permission to the new concessionaire to introduce total 232 orange buses under cluster 2 at the earliest.
With introduction of 16 buses, the total number of cluster buses on roads has gone up to 316. The concessionaire has decided to roll out another 20 buses on route 460 [Badarpur Border to Minto Road Terminal] next month.
It may be noted that the routes are being decided by Transport department. The new buses have special features such as electronic ticketing, announcements inside the buses and scrolling system about the next bust stops.
With introduction of the new cluster, the intra-city commuting would become more comfortable, as the new buses will connect eight prominent Metro stations, including Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Mohan Estate, Sarita Vihar, Jasola-Apollo, Pragati Maidan, Chandni Chawk and Kashmere Gate. Goswami said DTC already has a fleet of around 5,700 buses, as compared to 3,740 buses in March 2005. This includes 3,781 CNG buses, of which 1,275 are air-conditioned, and another 1,959 standard floor buses.
