The government on Saturday dismissed suggestions that the monsoon session will be the last session and that the country was headed for early elections. ‘There are still three sessions left, including the Monsoon session, the winter session and budget session for the vote-on-account,’ parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath said. Nath also said that the monsoon session which concludes on 30 August could be extended, if necessary.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said he expected a ‘constructive and productive’ session and sought support from all parties in the monsoon session of parliament starting 5 August. ‘We expect a constructive and productive session of parliament,’ Singh said.
