Monsoon hits U’Khand severely, Nainital worst affected

Uttarakhand is under the grip of severe rain in most parts from the last 48 hours. Nainital in Kumaon region wore the maximum brunt of this year monsoon and tourists remained confined in hotel and resort rooms on <g data-gr-id="33">third</g> consecutive day. The <g data-gr-id="43">Bhujan</g>-<g data-gr-id="44">Betalghat</g>-<g data-gr-id="45">Gargia</g> road is blocked due to debris. Fifteen interior roads are obstructed there and tourists/<g data-gr-id="46">localites</g> are eagerly waiting for <g data-gr-id="30">clear</g> sky to reach their destination.
If this condition persists, the forthcoming days can be <g data-gr-id="26">litmus</g> test for tourism in Nainital including ongoing Char Dham yatra. The famous hill station reported 38 mm rain from the last 24 hours (8.30 am recorded) on Tuesday. On Monday, it received 120 mm rain in mere 14 hours. <g data-gr-id="25">Incessant</g> rain resulted in 9 feet rise <g data-gr-id="42">in famous</g> Naini Lake.
All government and private schools remained closed on Tuesday as instructed by local administration. Ganga river in holy city Haridwar was flowing at 291.90 <g data-gr-id="37">meter</g> just <g data-gr-id="39">few meter</g> below the danger mark (294 <g data-gr-id="38">meter</g>) as recorded at 3 pm on Tuesday.
Similarly, <g data-gr-id="40">Bhagirithi</g> <g data-gr-id="36">river,</g> was also recorded flowing at <g data-gr-id="35">1119.46 meter</g> mark as danger mark is 1123 meter. The district administration is on high alert and constantly instructing people living <g data-gr-id="41">low lying</g> areas to avert any danger. The rainfall on Tuesday was 10 mm in Mukhteswar, 2.1 mm in Mussoorie, 83.1 mm in Pantnagar, 43 mm in Pauri, 80 mm in Lansdown and 71.6 mm in Dehradun (as informed by state met center).
For the next 48 hours, the state met department has forecasted of <g data-gr-id="22">heavy</g> downpour with thunderstorms in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, <g data-gr-id="27">Pittoragarh</g> and Almora districts.
