Modi on IM hit list before Patna blasts: Bhatkal

The source said that the terror attack in Patna was planned at least three months ago, thus proving that Modi has been on the extremist group Indian Mujahideen’s (IM) target list even before his name was announced as the prime ministerial nominee by the BJP.
IM mastermind Yasin Bhatkal, who is currently in the custody of Delhi police special cell, reportedly revealed during interrogation that he had been assigned the responsibility to target the Gujarat CM. Sources in the special cell told Millennium Post, ‘The currently absconding Bhatkal brothers, Riaz and Iqbal, had instructed Yasin to plan an attack on Modi. Recces were conducted several times to gather the exact details of Modi’s security arrangement in order to execute the strike.’ Yasin reportedly told the police that the tight security around Modi saved him from the terror attacks.
Even though several investigating agencies are probing the Patna serial blasts, which killed six persons and left around 80 injured, the motive behind targeting Modi is still not clear. Sources said, the quality of explosive used in the serial blasts did not indicate the clear-cut intention of the assailants. The agencies are still grappling with the question of whether the terrorists wanted to scare or kill. However Imtiaz, one of the arrested terrorists in connection with the blasts, has alleged that the motive behind the attack was to avenge the Muzaffarnagar communal riots.
Yasin, meanwhile, has also disclosed the strikes planned by IM that are likely to be carried out around mid-2014. ‘Foreign tourists, especially Jews visiting Bikaner in Rajasthan, are the future targets of IM, who could either kill them or take them as hostages. Before Yasin’s arrest, two IM operatives, Tehsin Akhtar and Waqas, who are the main suspects in the Patna blasts and currently on the run, had conducted extensive recces of the spot,’ sources told Millennium Post.
The custodial remand papers of Yasin prepared by Delhi police special cell reads: ‘With Yasin under arrest, IM is now headed by Tehsin Akhtar and Waqas. The two absconding terrorists have conducted recces at several places in Rajasthan. On the basis of these revelations, an alert has been sounded in Rajasthan especially at several tourists hub.’
