Modi govt trying to ‘undermine’ contributions of Nehru: Congress

Locked in a legacy war with NDA, Congress leaders on Saturday accused the ruling combine of trying to “undermine” the contributions of Jawaharlal Nehru as curtains came down on Congress’s year-long 125th birth anniversary celebrations of India’s first Prime Minister.

“There are some forces in India today, which is creating misinformation about Nehru’s role in making new India. It is very necessary for all of us to go to people and tell them once again how big was the contribution of Nehru in making the new India,” former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said.

He was speaking at an event to commemmorate the 126th birth anniversary of Nehru today, which was the culminiation of the year-long celebrations that started last year on November 14, the 125th birth aniversary of India’s first PM, who was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, UP.
