Speaking at a public rally in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Modi blamed the Congress government for not being able to protect the minority community in Rajasthan. He asked the people not to vote for the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan because even the ‘shehzada’ has lost faith in the chief minister.
While blaming the Gehlot government for failing to maintain law and order in the state that witnessed 25 riots and 80 incidents of communal violence in the last five years, Modi accused Gandhi of making an emotional appeal by using the names of his family members.
‘It is well known that family serials do well on television, so the shehzada thought that he too will start a family serial in the elections. He doesn’t talk about people and development but only about his own family members,’ said Modi in his nearly 45-minute-long speech. ‘Shehzada came to Rajasthan. Even his party men did not understand what he spoke, why he spoke, for whom he spoke,’ added Modi.
‘I tried to gather information on who gave him (Gandhi) this ISI story. I came to know a Rajasthan-based police officer, who wants to fight elections on a Congress ticket, passed this information and he in turn used that in his speech,’ he said.
Meanwhile, irked by the BJP’s usage of words like ‘shehzada’, the Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said: ‘The way Rahul Gandhi is being addressed and criticised by the use of language - words like ‘shahzada, this conduct is not dignified in a democracy. Congress workers are not reacting out of respect for the model code of conduct and laws of the country and are thus quiet.’
