A 40-year-old woman was found murdered in a park in north-west Delhi's Model Town on Sunday. Locals protested on Monday and pelted stones at policemen, injuring 12 officials, after the deceased’s family alleged on Monday, that she had been raped before being killed.
A PCR call was received on Sunday morning, informing that a body of a woman had been found lying at Ramlila Park in Model Town. A team of officials soon reached the spot and took the body to a hospital. Efforts were made to identify the body before a post mortem examination was carried out. The body was finally identified as that of Kamlesh Devi, who used to work as a domestic help in a house in Gupta Colony in the area. Her husband Prempal is unemployed and the couple lived in a rented accommodation. 'Initial investigation suggests that she was attacked with a heavy object on her head, but the autopsy report will reveal the exact cause of death,' the investigating officer said.
When the victim’s mother was informed of her daughter's murder, she claimed that her daughter had been raped before being murdered.
She told police that on Saturday night the victim had had dinner at her mother’s place, hardly a kilometer away from her own residence. She had left her mother’s house after dinner, but did not reach home and on Sunday morning her body was discovered in a park. Her clothes were found to be torn and bangles broken.
On Monday, at approximately 10 am, angry relatives and neighbours of the victim staged a demonstration, stoned and injured policemen and damaged two police vehicles. The mob demanded early arrest of the culprits. The protesters blocked G T Road in the Model Town area and stoned policemen who tried to stop them.
'Approximately 12 policemen were injured and two police vehicles were damaged,' a police official said.
