MLA beats up students for taking part in talent show

Former Congress legislator from north west Delhi’s Sultanpur Majra, Jai Kishan, who is also the chairperson of a private school, has been accused of severely beating up 22 students — mostly from standards of 9th and 10th, who had reportedly gone to Hyderabad to audition for a talent show without taking permission from the school authorities.

The incident took place on Friday morning, a day after the students from RD Public Senior Secondary School, in Rohini, Sector 20, returned after the week-long trip. The parents of these students reported the matter to the police and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IPC.

According to the police, as many as 22 students had left for Hyderabad last week with their choreography instructor, identified as one Abhishek, to participate in India’s Got Talent. The music teacher had reportedly informed the parents of the students. However, the school authorities had objected to the idea. They returned to Delhi on February 12. On Friday, Chairperson Jai Kishan had come to the school for a visit, when he was informed about the week-long trip against the orders of the management. Jai Kishan allegedly summoned all 22 of them and slapped them mercilessly.

Meanwhile, the music teacher reported the incident to the respective parents, who rushed to the school immediately. They protested against the act and later approached the police.

Jai Kishan was summoned at the Sultanpur police station for questioning and an FIR was registered in the evening.

“It was wrong on the dance instructor’s part to take the students to participate in the talent show, once the application was rejected by the management. He did not have the authentication letter to use the school’s name for the dance group in the talent show. The management is now contemplating upon an apt action against the person,” said the school’s spokesperson.
