MK Singh summoned in sexual harassment case

MK Singh, a former MD of Bridge and Roof Co. (India) Ltd, who is facing charges of sexual harassment, has received a summon order after he failed to appear before a court. Later, Singh was released on bail, after furnishing a bond to the court.

Despite facing charges of sexual harassment, which was found true by an internal enquiry committee, the ministry of heavy industries and public enterprise had earlier given a six-month extension to Singh.

Singh, was accused of sexual harassment by one of the female employees of Bridge & Roof Co. (India) Ltd. Kolkata. But no action was taken against him at that time. Singh had also managed to stop terminal dues of another woman employee, Linda Allen, who was the chairperson of that enquiry committee. The complaint was filed by a woman of the company who alleged “indecent behaviour of boss MK Singh”. Serving 33 years in Bridge & Roof Co. (India) Ltd, she had alleged that since 2011, when Singh joined the company, she faced ‘tremendous strain and mental stress’ due to the ‘harassment and humiliation’ she faced due to Singh.

Linda Allen, former personal secretary to the chairman and the one who chaired the probe panel, has sought justice from President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking his intervention for immediate release of her terminal dues after serving 42 years in this company. She alleged that terminal dues can be held back only if there is any vigilance case. And her vigilance case had already been cleared earlier.
