Two middle-aged men from Mizoram were arrested in the nactional capital for allegedly possessing 115 kg pseudo-ephedrine, a party drug, worth approximately Rs 1.2 crore, police said on Tuesday.
Lianthuama Chhakchhuak (48) and Sawithanga (53), hailing from Lunglei district in the northeastern state, were apprehended from the IGI airport on Monday night, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav told reporters here.
They were carrying 115 kg of contraband drugs in four bags, he said.
CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said that the two were intercepted by a CISF check squad when they arrived at the airport to board a flight to Guwahati.
‘The accused told officials that they were in the furniture business. But it was later revealed that they were carriers and were to receive Rs one lakh on delivering the drugs,’ he said.
Yadav said, ‘During investigations, it was found that they had come to Delhi two weeks ago to receive the consignment and were to deliver it in Mizoram.’
‘Police are coordinating with the Mizoram police in the case. This is the third such case of drug trafficking in the capital and second in March,’ a police official said.
GOLD BISCUITS WORTH RS 30 LAKHS FOUND IN AIRPORT TOILET
Seven gold biscuits valued at Rs 30 lakh were recovered on Tuesday from a toilet in the domestic terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The biscuits, weighing 100 grams each, were found early in the morning after a housekeeping staff alerted a CISF check squad about a small packet lying unattended inside the men’s toilet of terminal 1D.
‘The biscuits bore a 9990 Dubai-UAE mark and have been handed over to the concerned authorities,’ CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.
