In response to the report Munak Canal not ready to draw water from Haryana published on December 26, Delhi Jal Board has clarified that it will complete the missing link of underground pipeline within 10 days once the encroachment is cleared by Delhi Development Authority.
“Once the encroachment is cleared by DDA from its proposed Urban Extension Road, DJB would be in a position to complete this link within 10 days,” said Sanjam Chima, Consultant PR of DJB in a written communication to Millennium Post. “DJB has been pursuing this matter consistently with DDA and its has been escalated up to the level of the Ministry of UD, GOI and the L-G for re-allocation of unauthorised encroachers to enable DJB to lay pipelines,” she added further.
The clarification further added: “DDA is the land owning agency and has been asked to remove unauthorised encroachments in Bhagya Vihar and Amar Colony and DJB managed with great efforts to get vacated the stay order for laying of water line in Dahiya farm house.
“Immediately after the orders from the court, DJB has laid the water lines in Dahiya farm after cutting 23 trees with the approval of the department of conservation and forest.” She claimed that out of the three plants to be commissioned on 80 mgd water of Munak Canal, DJB has already commissioned the Okhla WTP with recycled water from Chandrawal WTP, whereas trial run of Bawana has already been started. “DJB is awaiting to receive water from Haryana to run its plants to their full capacity which are ready to be commissioned as soon as water is released from the neighbouring state. This would also ensure water availability to the residents to Dwarka who presently reel under water scarcity,” the clarification added.
