While her in-laws in Indore, who had filed a complaint a month ago, were still looking for her, missing Akansha Rathi had surfaced at her father’s house in the national capital. But unfortunately, a gruesome twist has been introduced to the tale: she had apparently committed suicide by hanging herself on 23 October in her room here.
Daughter-in-law of the owner of Rathi Iron and Steel, Akansha had been missing for the past one month. After her husband died last month, she had moved to her parents’ house without reportedly informing her in-laws, who had filed a missing complaint at an Indore police station.
Police sources told Millennium Post that things weren’t well between the couple, Akansha and her husband Anirudh, as she was not able to bear children. On 4 September, Anirudh was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Malviya Nagar. Soon after his death, Akansha reportedly went into depression.
A senior police official said, ‘On 23 October, Rockland hospital staff made a PCR call and informed us that a girl had committed suicide by hanging herself. She was admitted to the hospital by her father. A team was then sent to the hospital.’
The father of the deceased, Krishan Pal Singh, informed police that in the morning, when he went to Akansha’s room to wake her up, she did not open the door that was locked from inside. Later, he broke open the door and found his daughter hanging from the ceiling fan. The duppatta she hung herself with has been taken by the police for examination.
‘The incident took place in Sansad Vihar apartment, Dwarka Sector-2, of south-west district. She was immediately rushed to the nearby Rockland hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival,’ the official added.
After her husband’s death, Akansha had apparently shifted to her parents’ residence in Dwarka. Last week, she has filed a dowry harassment case in a Madhya Pradesh police station, as earlier she used to live in Indore, along with her in-laws. She was also a director in the Rathi Iron and Steel firm. Doctors of Rockland hospital told Millennium Post that when she was admitted, the dupatta was still wrapped around her neck but the knot was on the front . ‘Generally, when a person commits suicide by hanging, the knot is on the back side. In this case, the knot had been tied in the front, as also proved by the injury marks,’ the doctor added.
Anil Kumar Ojha, Additional Commissioner of Police (south-west) said, ‘We are investigating the matter from all plausible angles. Also, we have coordinated with MP police to get the details of the complaint that the deceased had lodged against her in-laws, who are the well-known industrialists.’
