Miscreant tries to rob girl’s earring, slashes her face

A miscreant slashed the face of a 22-year-old girl on the road on the city’s outskirt and decamped after the locals reached there. The girl was rescued from there and was sent to the hospital. Police are yet to make any headway about the incident.

The girl, a third year student of a college, was walking down the pavement at Belghoria in North 24 Parganas, just adjacent to Kolkata at around 9.50 pm on Thursday.

The youth came from behind, pursuing the girl on a cycle. He came closer to the girl and stretched his arm towards her ear. The girl suddenly saw the blade which was in his hands. “I tried to move aside; otherwise my right ear would have been slashed but instead the blade slashed my face,” said the girl.

Police said, the girl came from Hooghly’s Rishra to Kolkata for studying. She was admitted to a collage few years back and took a rented residence at Belghoria. “She lives alone there. She was coming from a theatre show at that night when the miscreant attacked her,” said a police officer.

The girl, however, said that everyone around her was nice. She has no such enemy who could attack her. “I am totally confused why and how something like this could happen to me. I do not have any relationship with any boy. I do not have any enemy whom I could recall,” she said. However, the investigators believe, the youth tried to snatch the gold earrings from the girl. She suddenly noticed that the youth was coming close to her, but could not save herself.

“I think he might be some local criminal. But he had a dangerous intention. He was trying to cut her ear to get the valuable earrings. We are searching for him,” said the investigating officer. The girl also helped the police artists make a portrait parlay of the accused.
