Minor raped, set ablaze by boyfriend in Greater Noida

A minor girl was allegedly raped and then set ablaze by her boyfriend in Greater Noida on Sunday night.

According to the police, as per the allegations levelled by the minor girl’s father, the incident took place in Bisrakh village in Greater Noida when the accused, Ajay Sharma, trespassed to their house terrace, called the girl there, raped her and set her on fire. Sharma is the girl’s neighbour. The girl has suffered 80 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. “We got to know that our daughter is in trouble when my wife heard her screams at around 3.45 am. We all went to sleep around midnight. It was only when my mother woke me up that I raised an alarm. My daughter spoke to the police and even identified the accused. Since she is very critical, she could not tell the police about the past incidents when she was harassed by Ajay,” her father said.

“He is from an upper class. He was harassing my daughter for the past few months so much so that he followed her everywhere. In the initial days, he even brainwashed my daughter. Once, ten months ago, he took my child to an isolated place but that time we could save our child. Since he followed her everywhere, we even tried to convince our child to drop her studies and pursue her education from an open university,” added the tearful father. “However, that boy did not stop. He started following her to the tuition classes too,” said the father. According to a senior police officer: “We have arrested him under Sections 376 (rape), 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 452 (house trespass to hurt or assault someone) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.”
