The father of the five-year-old rape victim identified on Wednesday a policeman who allegedly tried to bribe the family to not register a case in the matter. Police sources said the father of the east Delhi girl has identified the policeman who allegedly offered a bribe of Rs 2,000 to the family for not registering a first information report (FIR) in the case. However, the sources did not reveal the identity of the accused to the media. 'The girl's father identified the culprit from the photographs of 13 policemen that were shown to him. The photos were of policemen from the ranks of constable to inspector,' said a police official. 'We are probing the matter and further investigation is on,' said a police official.
Earlier, Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar had said that the police official who allegedly offered the bribe could not be identified because the victim's father was not available for the identification process.
The five-year-old girl was abducted on 15 April, kept hostage for two days and sexually assaulted and brutalised in a room in which the attackers lived on the ground floor of a building in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar. The girl's family stays in the same building.
The main accused 25-year-old Manoj Kumar, during police interrogation, revealed that he along with another accused 19-year-old Pradeep Kumar consumed alcohol at the latter's residence. Then the duo watched porn on Pradeep's mobile phone, before returning to Manoj's rented accommodation.
The child was playing outside Manoj's room and the two accused invited her inside the room on the pretext of giving her a chocolate. The two men also said that they had repeatedly raped the girl.
According to their statements, Manoj asked Pradeep to kill the toddler. Pradeep strangled the victim and left the place thinking the girl was dead.
The victim was rescued when members of her family heard her screams on 17 April. She is now being treated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
