Minor dies after roof collapses in E Delhi

A five-year-old girl died while four members of her family were severely injured when the roof of a gurdwara collapsed in East Delhi’s Geeta Colony area, police said on Wednesday. The victims worked at the gurdwara and lived on its premises, police said, adding that the incident was reported in the early hours on Wednesday.

Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and a joint rescue operation was conducted by Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Services and Delhi Police after authorities were notified at around 2.30 am, said a senior police official.

The five victims were rushed to LNJP Hospital, where the five-year-old girl, identified as Kuljeet Kaur, was declared brought dead.

Her family members, who sustained severe injuries, have been identified as <g data-gr-id="25">Rajendar</g> Singh (35), Rajender Kaur (30), <g data-gr-id="26">Harmant</g> Preet Kaur (9) and Sagar (20), said the senior official.

“A case has been registered under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC and an investigation is under way,” the official added.

Delhi government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the kin of the deceased girl <g data-gr-id="21">besides</g> Rs 50,000 to each of the injured victims.
