Ministers tear into BJP’s remarks aginst government

Ministers in the current Delhi government, Arvinder Singh, Raj Kumar Chauhan and Haroon Yusuf on Tuesday stated that the BJP has started politicising each and every issue, apart from misleading the people, on issues of unauthorised colonies and Chhat Puja.

Singh expressed surprise over concerns raised by Dr. Harsh Vardhan on the alleged unsatisfactory condition of amenities in unauthorised colonies and villages. He stated that Dr. Harsh Vardhan had always been opponent of regularisation of unauthorised colonies. ‘After becoming the chief ministerial candidate, he has now started talking about the unauthorised colonies. This is a kind of about turn by him as until recently he was opposed to regularisation of the unauthorised colonies,’ said Singh.

He alleged that on 2 April, 2002, Dr. Harsh Vardhan criticised the Congress Government on its decision to regularise all unauthorized colonies, stating that it would burden the government and would eventually lose control over these areas.

On Chhat puja, Chouhan said government has made elaborate arrangement at various ghats across Yamuna. Devotees flock to various ghats along the Yamuna to offer prayers to the Sun on Chhat Puja, which is celebrated in Delhi by an estimated 40-lakh-strong Poorvanchali population.
This year’s Chhat Puja will be celebrated on 8 and 9 November. On BJP’s demand for declaring gazetted holiday for Chhat Puja, Singh accused the party of politicising the issue.

‘I want to ask the BJP which gazetted holiday should be striked out from the existing list to accommodate holiday for Chhat puja. The list cannot be extended as per central government rules,’ he said.
