Ministers take measures to curb prices of perishable food and vegetables

The government also announced the setting up of a task force to improve upon the wholesale markets of Delhi and for the identification of new spots to open more of such markets to reduce the pressure on the existing ones.

“Rai directed the officials of concerned departments to immediately take emergency measures to check the rising prices, which affect common households. He directed for the implementation of certain measures to keep prices under control,” said a senior officer of Delhi government.

Rai said that the prices of vegetables, onions, tomatoes and potatoes should be clearly displayed in the Azadpur, Ghazipur (Shahdara) and Keshopur markets. Officials have been directed to immediately make necessary arrangements for prices to be relayed through electronic and print media forums. Rai also directed the officers to ensure that the exorbitant margins charged by commission agents should be immediately curbed.

Officials have been further asked to keep a close check on the margin of profit between purchases from farmers and the final prices at which they are sold in the retail market. He also directed to conduct surprise checks to contain the rising prices. The ministers have ordered the officers to come up with long-term measures to control the prices of perishable food items and vegetables.
