Millennium Post impact: Mid day meal rocks House

Senior BJP leader Dr Harshvardhan on Monday raised the issue of substandard quality of food being served under the mid day meal scheme in primary and upper primary schools of Delhi government, in the Delhi Assembly. He demanded that the government enquires into the matter and takes action immediately.

'It’s a cruel joke on the health of over 1.5 lakh students studying in Delhi government schools.

The officers are taking the issue very casually. I request you to direct the government to not take it casually and conduct inquiry in the scam,' said Dr Harshvardhan in Delhi Assembly referring to the news reports of

'The newspaper has alleged an over Rs 220 crore scam in the mid day meal scheme which needs to be investigated,' added Harshvardhan. He raised the matter under rule 280 of the Delhi Assembly in which matters of special attention are brought to the notice of the government.

Referring to the news reports of the Millennium Post he further said that Dr Amarjeet Singh, Secretary, Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the last meeting had directed Diwan Chand, Education Secretary of Delhi government to take action on substandard food but the all the reports are buried in the bulky files.  He also presented the data of mid day meal test reports in the house published in Millennium Post on 11 March 2013.
