Milan, Roma eke out 2-2 draw

Mattia Destro opened the scoring for Roma in the 13th minute with his second goal in as many matches but Cristian Zapata leveled on the half-hour mark.

Kevin Strootman restored Roma’s lead in the 52nd minute from the penalty spot after substitute goalkeeper Gabriel had needlessly fouled Gervinho.

Tensions began to fray at San Siro and Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was sent to the stands, while captain Riccardo Montolivo was booked for dissent and will miss Sunday’s derby match against Inter Milan.

Sulley Muntari rescued a point for Milan 13 minutes from time. Roma remained second but is five points behind Juventus.

‘TOTTI RETURN MAKES US STRONGER’

The return of captain Francesco Totti after a long injury layoff has put a spring back in the step of AS Roma coach Rudi Garcia.  The experienced playmaker, who has been out for eight weeks with a thigh injury, returned for Monday’s 2-2 Serie A draw at AC Milan. “We knew that neither Totti nor Destro had 90 minutes in their legs so I chose to divide the match between them,” said Garcia.

“It’s good news that the captain is back because with him we are even stronger.” Roma are trying to play down title talk although expectations have been raised hungry for success.
