A 39-year-old Merchant Navy captain allegedly committed suicide at an ashram in Southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony, police said on Friday.
Although no suicide note has been recovered from the spot, initial investigation has indicated that the man was under stress owing to a property dispute in his family, they said. It was because of the dispute that he had been living at the ashram for the past one month. ‘The deceased, identified as Jasdeep Gill, was captain in the Merchant Navy. He was found hanging from the ceiling of a room of the ashram around 2 pm today (Friday),’ said a police official.
Gill was a resident of Noida Sector 21 and had been living in the ashram for more than a month after his relations with family soured over some property dispute, police said. ‘He had shared the trouble he was facing over property with some people in the ashram. He had mentioned about his plans to take the matter to court, but nobody expected him to take such an extreme step,’ the police official said. Police said the body has been sent for postmortem and Gill’s family informed. A case has been registered at the Sunlight Colony police station, they added.
