Merc case: Juvenile’s father arrested; SHO, IO removed after police swing into action

The killer Mercedes that mowed down a 32-year-old business executive on Wednesday was being driven by a juvenile who turned 18 on Friday. Incidentally, he was a repeat offender. Before killing Sidhartha, four challans including rash driving and over speeding were issued against the registration number since last year.

Meanwhile, in a fresh development, the juvenile’s father has been arrested under Sections 304 (culpable homicide) and 190 of the IPC. “Manoj Aggarwal has been arrested for abetting the crime of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and now he has been prohibited to take the vehicle,” said DCP Madhur Verma.

Millennium Post had earlier reported the loopholes in the case and the family members of Sharma were also not satisfied with the probe, after which the senior cops have swung into action. The Station House Officer (SHO) and the Investigating Officer of Civil Lines police station have been removed from the investigation after several loopholes in the probe came to light, a source said.

New officers have been appointed in the case and some more sections under the Indian Penal Code are likely to be added in the FIR. A highly-placed source said: “The silver Mercedes car was challaned four times. Recently, in March, a challan for rash driving was issued to Manoj Kumar, owner of the car.

Similarly, last year, in February, a challan for wrong parking was issued, in April and June challans for over-speeding were sent too.” The source confirmed that the person behind the wheels at the time when these challans were being issued was the juvenile himself. There was also an accident case against him.

Meanwhile, Sharma’s sister Shilpa and other family members met Alok Verma, Delhi Police Commissioner and demanded strict action against the juvenile who was released on bail within few hours after his apprehension. They also demanded a drug test on the juvenile and asked the cops to seize his passport.

The source added that Sharma’s family members are also in touch with former Delhi Police Commissioner — Neeraj Kumar who is helping them in the casein order to make it stronger in every possible way.

Benson licks his wounds with tears in his eyes awaiting his master’s return
Meet Benson, a six-year-old golden labrador who is waiting at the doorstep for his owner — Sidhartha Sharma — who was killed by an over speeding Mercedes on Wednesday. His sad eyes, that were once so cheerful, are filled with the hope of his master’s return.

He was few months old when he was added in the Sharma family and was brought by Shilpa, Sidhartha’s elder sister. Soon after the adoption, Shilpa went to London and since then Sidhartha and Benson became friends forever.

“Benson is not just a pet. He is our family member and for Siddi (deceased’s nick name) Benson was his brother. At times he used to call him ‘bro’. They both shared a very strong bonding. They used to dance on Bollywood songs and one of these moments was also captured in my mobile,” said Shilpa, adding that he is not ready to accept Sidhartha’s sudden demise. Benson has become very quiet and has stopped eating anything since the day of the incident.

During the last rites, he was present at the cremation ground. He was not letting anyone burn his body. He was barking continuously and became very restless. Since then he is awake and whenever he hears the door bell, he becomes very excited believing that it’s Sidhartha. But as soon as the door opens, he finds someone else standing there and not his master. The teary eyes of the voiceless is something that the family is finding very difficult to cope with apart from their own tragedy.
