‘Meow Meow’ drug worth more than Rs 48 lakh recovered

Four people, including a postman working at the Lodhi Road post office, were arrested after the first operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on February 26. They were identified as Satyam, Ashok Tripathi, Santosh and Naresh (postman). Based on a tip-off, the agency first incepted the postman. Later, the other members were nabbed from Mahipalpur, Uttam Nagar and Malviya Nagar areas, said a highly-placed source in NCB.

This module reportedly used to procure Meow Meow from Maharashtra at the rate of Rs 400 per gram and exported it to USA and certain European nations at Rs 1600 per gram. Around 2.6 Kg Meow Meow was recovered from their possession. The module used an address, which ensured that the ‘undelivered consignments’ be always returned at the Lodhi Road unit of India Post, where they had planted Naresh the postman, the source said.

The source further said that the module used to contact customers through ‘internet pharmacies’, which is largely used in widespread distribution of narcotic substances.

In the second operation conducted on March 2, a 25-year-old man was arrested from West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area. He allegedly sold Meow Meow to college students in Delhi. However, he has yet not disclosed specific names of colleges, students or how he used to contact them. His name was not disclosed by the NCB official for the convenience in interrogation. The agency believes that his arrest can lead them to a bigger module, which targets youths in Delhi.

The 25-year-old accused also procured the drugs from Maharashtra and reportedly sold them at the rate of Rs 1600 per gram. Around 450 grams of Meow Meow was recovered  from his possession, the source added.

In January 2015, Millennium Post was the first to report that Meow Meow (wildly popular in Mumbai so far) has hit the narcotics market in Delhi. Even the Delhi Police had received inputs on the same, confirmed a senior Crime Branch official. In February 2015, the Centre added Meow Meow in the list of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances (NDPS).
